Even small books stores are finally recognizing e-books!

Recently while driving in the car, I heard this radio commercial for the half priced bookstore in my town.  The guy was going on and on about this new “fancy electronic reader” he’d gotten for Christmas.  He was going on and on about how it didn’t feel like a book, smell like a book, or even fit on his bookshelf. Or that he constantly wanted to shake it to turn the pages. He couldn’t take in the tub if he wanted or heaven forbid if he forgot it in a hotel room.

It was basically a commercial that was promoting his store and traditional books.  I did get a chuckle out of it, since I’ve been in the store and they sell video games, DVD’s,  computer software,  music cd’s  AND books.  But I digress. The fact that I heard this commercial in a small town of only 35,000 in the middle of the mid-west just surprised me. It’s the first radio commercial I’ve ever heard talking about an e-reader. It also just had me realizing that e-books are coming of age even in the small community where I reside and makes me more than happy that I’ve chosen to go the e-book route opposed to traditional books. Not to say I don’t love seeing my books in print, I do! I just foresee the e-readers becoming more and more popular despite their costs.

I own one myself and love it, even though I occasionally pick up a traditional book now and again to share with my dad. The convenience of them are wonderful even if I can’t take them into the bathtub with me. Personally my husband loves them because I don’t have a gazillion books laying around the house. Which reminds me, he’s been begging me to go through my books and weed  them down again.  Ah…another item to add to my growing to-do list.

I love my ebook reader, but I still read paper books too. I buy less of those now, the husband is happier that he isn’t tripping over tons of books in the house :)

Must get some more sorted :)
