I don’t have anything serious today. I wanna dance, so lets turn the music up. It’s a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the sun is shining and it’s cool outside. AND the rain has finally stopped! What more could a girl ask for?
Of course: a laptop, a cup of Earl Gray tea and some rockin’ tunes would be nice. Lucky girl that I am, I’ve got all three at my fingertips. But seriously today I decided to talk about music. What does music have to do with writing? After all music is something you listen to while reading is something you see.
For me they go hand in hand. I’ve found this wonderful site online and it’s free! It’s called Pandora.com. You sign up for a free account…it’s quick and painless. Then you enter a song or artist you like and they do the rest. They find other artists with similar styles. It doesn’t matter what kind of music it is or not. I’ve listened to everything on there from country to rock and roll and rap. My son has also used my account so I have a Jazz station. Another perk they have is if you don’t like a certain song…lick on the thumbs down and they remove it from the playlist. It’s just awesome and I love the friend who turned me on to this site.
It’s hard to believe but for some unknown reason having music playing in the back ground just strokes up my creative juices and the words pour out of me. Last night while listening to Color Me Badd and Journey amongst various other artists, I wrote over 3000 words on my WIP. The time passed so fast, I was startled when my hubby said..babe it’s time for bed….hint hint…lol.
Perhaps not every author requires music to work productively but it works for me!

I love, love, love Pandora.com! I listen at work and at home while I’m writing.
Every once in a while I plug in something completely out there like – The Monkeys
Tons of fun.
